Did you know that Washington County has the third largest homeless student population in Oregon? 2,037 K-12 students in the 2012-13 school year! The Beaverton School District has the highest number of homeless students in all of Oregon at 1,371 student, a third of those are unaccompanied minors.
I’m excited to do the design for this amazing event for a third year, each year bigger than the last: Home Runs for Homeless Youth to benefit HomePlate Youth Services! HomePlate connects youth to employment, housing, and education through street outreach and drop-in centers in Hillsboro and Beaverton.
Even if you’re not on a team or part of a sponsoring company, come out and enjoy the tournament, beer garden, raffle and more…
Sunday, June 8 from 10:00am – 4:30pm (Championship game starts at 4pm)
Hillsboro Stadium & Ballpark (Home of the Hops!)
4450 NW 229th Ave – Hillsboro, OR 97124
Home Runs for Homeless Youth kickball tournament was created by the Leadership Beaverton class of 2012, of which I was a member. We raised $13,000 which enabled HomePlate Youth Services to open its third Washington County drop-in location at Merlo Station High School in Beaverton. There, youth can drop in on Wednesday evenings for a free hot meal, a shower, access to resources and enjoy a consistent and supportive community.
Proceeds will help HomePlate Youth Services continue their important service in Washington County.
If you are interested in getting involved or getting connected with this amazing organization please feel free to contact me and I’ll make sure to point you in the right direction.
